The rookie slugger flashed his power in Triple-A, fueling Jacksonville’s victory while clearing a path for his anticipated return to the Miami lineup this weekend.
Miami Marlins injured outfielder Owen Caissie is powerfully progressing through his minor league rehab assignment.
The rookie right fielder hit a solo home run in the third inning of Triple-A Jacksonville’s 5-3 win over Memphis, snapping a 12-game losing streak, on Tuesday.
Caissie was acquired by the Marlins in a trade with the Chicago Cubs for Edward Cabrera over the offseason. The Canadian native had hit 12 home runs and 50 RBI before his injury.
Caissie was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 9 with a right calf strain, and the Marlins went on a 12-game losing streak of their own the next day.
The Marlins expect Caissie to return over the weekend during their road series against the New York Mets.
Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said before Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies that Caissie would get about 13 plate appearances at the designated hitter position for three days before being reassessed.
“We’ll just see how he’s feeling and how he comes out of that,” McCullough said.
The Jumbo Shrimp came back in the eighth inning to win their first game in three weeks. Deyvison De Los Santos delivered a two-run double to extend his team leads in hits (82), doubles (16) and RBI (49).
