Miami Marlins prospect Owen Caissie hit a two-run home run for Team Canada against Colombia in the World Baseball Classic, showcasing the power that makes him one of baseball’s top prospects.
The Miami Marlins are keeping a close eye on outfielder Owen Caissie, and the organization received an encouraging reminder of his power on Saturday during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Representing Team Canada, Caissie delivered an early highlight in Canada’s Pool A matchup against Colombia in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The 23-year-old launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning, giving Canada a 2–0 lead and energizing the crowd at Hiram Bithorn Stadium.
The blast wasn’t just impressive for its timing -- it was memorable for where it landed. Caissie’s towering shot sailed into the stands and struck a Canadian flag being held by two fans, creating one of the most unique moments of the early tournament.
For Caissie, the homer served to again showcase the power that has made him one of baseball’s most intriguing young outfielders. Ranked the No. 42 overall prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, Caissie is well regarded for his combination of strength, athleticism, and arm talent. His performance on the international stage only reinforces why the Marlins believe he could become an important piece of their future.
The Ontario, Canada, native joined the Marlins organization earlier this year as part of the trade that sent right-hander Edward Cabrera to the Chicago Cubs. Miami targeted Caissie as a key return in that deal, viewing him as a potential long-term solution in the outfield.
Throughout his minor-league career, Caissie has consistently produced at the plate. Across more than 500 games in the minors, he compiled a .280 batting average, .384 on-base percentage, and .487 slugging percentage, along with 81 home runs and 301 RBIs. His power surge during the 2025 minor-league season further solidified his reputation as a hitter capable of impacting games with one swing.
While his numbers in early spring training have been modest, the Marlins remain confident in his overall skill set. Caissie’s strong arm and defensive ability give him the tools to develop into a reliable everyday right fielder, while his power offers the kind of offensive upside Miami’s lineup has been seeking.
His World Baseball Classic performance also highlights something teams value deeply: the ability to perform on big stages. Playing for his home country, Caissie has shown the poise and confidence that could translate well as he continues pushing for a larger role in professional baseball.
For now, the Marlins will continue watching from afar as Caissie competes in the international tournament. But if his early Classic highlight is any indication, Miami fans may soon see plenty more home runs from their rising outfield prospect.
