Miami Marlins pitcher Adam Mazur will miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing elbow surgery following discomfort during a spring-training outing.

The Miami Marlins have received unfortunate news regarding their pitching depth, as right-hander Adam Mazur will miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing elbow surgery, manager Clayton McCullough announced Wednesday.

Mazur experienced right elbow discomfort during a Grapefruit League outing on March 2 against the St. Louis Cardinals. According to McCullough, the issue arose when Mazur threw a 95.3-mph fastball to Cardinals batter Pedro Pagés in the second inning. Despite the discomfort, Mazur finished the inning and retired the next two batters.

The injury initially appeared minor, but further evaluation revealed the need for surgery. While the Marlins did not disclose the exact procedure, the recovery timeline will reportedly sideline the 24-year-old right-hander for the entire 2026 campaign.

McCullough said the team immediately reached out to Mazur once the decision was finalized and emphasized that the young pitcher remains optimistic despite the setback.

"He's bummed, as anybody would be," McCullough told MLB.com's Christina De Nicola. "But he's in terrific hands, and we’ve got a great group here that’s going to get him back stronger than ever."

Mazur was expected to serve as valuable rotation depth for Miami this season. The Marlins acquired him from the San Diego Padres at the 2024 trade deadline in the deal centered around closer Tanner Scott.

Last season, Mazur made six starts at the major league level, posting a 4.80 ERA as he adjusted to big-league competition. He also spent time at Triple-A Jacksonville and remained an optionable arm capable of filling rotation or long-relief roles.

His absence places additional importance on Miami’s pitching depth entering the season. The projected rotation still features Sandy Alcantara, Eury Pérez, Braxton Garrett, and Chris Paddack, but the club has several other arms competing for roles.

Right-handers Janson Junk, Bradley Blalock, and Ryan Gusto remain options on the 40-man roster, while top prospect Robby Snelling continues to impress in big-league camp.

With pitching injuries inevitable over a 162-game season, the Marlins will now have to rely on that depth even earlier than expected as Mazur begins the long road back from surgery.
