Minnesota native Max Meyer struck out nine in a triumphant return to Target Field as Miami’s explosive offense rebounded with 11 hits to overpower Minnesota’s pitching.

Max Meyer had a homecoming night to remember.

Making his first career start at Target Field as a Major Leaguer, the Minnesota native struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings as the Marlins took out the Twins 9-5 on Wednesday.

"He grinded through this one a bit,” Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said after the game. “He's come so far as a starter and now has many weapons in his arsenal.”

The Marlins knocked in 11 hits and nine runs the day after being held to only two hits in a shutout loss on Tuesday.

“Only place we could go from last night is up,” Marlins second baseman Xavier Edwards told Marlins Radio after the game. “We bounced back in a big way, got some early runs and kept the foot on the pedal.”

Xavier Edwards led off the game with a walk and scored on a single by Otto Lopez. Connor Norby, another Minnesota native on the Marlins, grounded into a double play, but not before driving in another run to put Miami up 2-0.

Twins outfielder Byron Buxton led off the home half of the first inning with a solo home run to cut the Marlins lead in half.

Leo Jimenez led off the second inning with a single and scored on a two-run homer by Owen Caissie, extending the Marlins lead to 4-1.

Buxton homered again from the leadoff spot to cut the Miami lead to 4-2 in the third inning. It seemed like every time he homered, the Marlins needed to respond the next inning.

Jimenez doubles and Caissie walked to start the fourth inning. Three straight hits followed to make it an 8-2 Marlins lead. Twins starter Simeon Woods Richardson was taken out of the game in the fourth inning, having allowed eight runs (6 earned) in 3.0 innings.

Back to back doubles by Austin Martin and Josh Bell led to the Twins scoring a run in the fifth inning, making it an 8-4 game.

Edwards hit a triple and scored as Liam Hicks reached on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning for the Marlins’ final run of the game. Edwards went 2-for-4 with two extra base hits to improve his batting average to .318 on the season.

Kody Clemens hit his fourth home run of the season in the eighth inning but the damage was done. It was the only hit and run given up by the Marlins’ bullpen, which entered the game with only 99 hits allowed this season, the fewest in MLB.

Jimenez went 3-for-5 with two runs scored to lead the Marlins at the plate and raise his batting average to .267 on the season.

The Marlins will look to secure their second consecutive road series win on Thursday with Braxton Garrett making not only his Marlins season debut and his first big league start since 2024. He will be going against Zebby Matthew’s, who is also making his 2026 debut with the Twins.
