Undefeated right-hander Max Meyer chases Marlins history as he faces reigning Cy Young winner Paul Skenes, while Miami’s scorching bullpen looks to maintain its dominant June form.

Miami Marlins RHP Max Meyer is making the case for his first appearance in the MLB All-Star Game.

Meyer enters Sunday’s start against the Pittsburgh Pirates as the only starting pitcher in the Major Leagues without a loss. His stretch of 14 starts without a loss is the longest in Marlins history.

That streak almost snapped on June 9 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He allowed two earned runs on seven hits — including two home runs — with two walks and five strikeouts over 5.1 innings. He was bailed out by a potent offense in a 10-6 Marlins victory.

Stretching his streak to 15 games will be tough, as he goes up against the reigning Cy Young Award winner, Paul Skenes. In his last three starts, Skenes has struck out 24 batters in 16 innings and has a 2.84 ERA on the season.

Meyer’s streak is vulnerable on the road. He has a 4.05 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched through six starts.

Fish Bites

Despite losing 3-2 on Saturday, the Marlins remain the hottest team in June with a 9-2 record. The Miami bullpen, which pitched the entirety of Saturday’s contest, is second in the big leagues in opponents' batting average (.200 and has issued the

second-fewest hits behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez, who has a case for the All-Star game with an MLB-high .345 batting average, has 20 hits so far in June.
