The Miami Marlins should not trade away any of their young talent, especially at the Major League level. Players rumored to be traded should be taken off the table.

The Marlins have a stout team flirting with a potential playoff spot. They need to keep the team intact and build through their existing minor league prospects. With the players they have at Triple-A Jacksonville, they should be a better team next season.
The Marlins, are currently a .500 team. They recently broke a 12-game losing streak and are barely on the outside looking in on the postseason. The Fightin' Fish are not that far away from the last wild-card position with 54 games remaining to be played.
They are loaded with talent around the horn. That is where most of the speculation has been generated.. There have been talks that the Marlins front office is looking to move 1B/C Liam Hicks, second baseman Xavier Edwards, and shortstop Otto Lopez.
There has also been speculation the Marlins are taking offers on left fielder Heriberto Hernandez.
If any of these players are traded, it would be an unmitigated disaster.
Marlins' president of baseball operations, Peter Bendix has proven to have an itchy trigger finger in the past. He has a knack for trading away talent that remains under the team's control for unproven players who will never see the bright lights at loanDepot Park.
With the Aug. 3 trade deadline rapidly approaching, Bendix needs to put his six-shooter back in his belt and stand pat.
What type of return could Bendix possibly get for these players? He would need a big haul and there are no rumors being circulated that any significant offers are on the table.
Lopez, an All-Star in 2026, leads the league with a .328 batting average. It would be fruitless to trade him now. He is perhaps the best young player on the team and was picked up for peanuts when he was DFA'd by the San Francisco Giants. Hicks has 14 home runs, while Hernandez leads the team with 16.
The Marlins have already announced that they are not looking to pick up any players on expiring contracts, most notably due to the frugality of their owner Bruce Sherman. Sherman is not going to want to pay market value to keep players on expiring contracts in town.
One can only hope that Bendix does not make the penultimate mistake on dealing one of his top-three starting pitchers. The New York Yankees have been on the trail of former Cy Young Award winner Sandy Alcantara. The team must also hold on to aces Eury Perez and Max Meyer at all costs.
The Marlins bullpen is a hot mess and closer Peter Fairbanks is at the top of the list. It has been reported by The Athletic that teams are contacting Bendix for Fairbanks' services. He was the lone big free-agent signing that Bendix made last offseason. He spent $13 million on Fairbanks for just one season. Fairbanks has not been consistent this season, despite collecting a save on Tuesday night.
If Bendix and Sherman had the nerve, they would look to bring in another starting pitcher which the team sorely needs. Since Chris Paddack was DFA'd early this season, the Marlins have gone without a fifth starter. They have used their bullpen to start and finish games and that has been a major disaster.
Ryan Gusto has proven that he cannot hold down the role as the fifth starter and you never know what you are going to get when the Marlins go past Tyler Phillips, who gets the starting nod in place of Meyer, who is on the IL. Calvin Faucher and Anthony Bender have been absolutely brutal in the setup roles, when looking at their complete body of work this season.
