Miami swaps struggling infielders as Graham Pauley returns from Triple-A, seeking to spark his power bat and sustain the red-hot Marlins’ improbable surge toward a playoff spot.

Graham Pauley will get another chance at solidifying the third base spot in the Miami Marlins lineup.

Pauley was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville as a corresponding move to Connor Norby being sent down on Friday, leading up to a road game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was sent down on June 2 and in 17 games with the Jumbo Shrimp, Pauley knocked in six doubles, 11 RBI, and an .813 OPS.

Pauley went 14-for-85 (.165) in 33 games with the Marlins so far this season. His call-up comes with the hope that the adjustments will pay off.

Norby was the Marlins' starting first baseman on Opening Day despite being a third baseman since being acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in 2024. Norby batted .205 with a .638 OPS, 12 doubles, four home runs, 16 RBIs, and 24 walks in 233 plate appearances through 65 games this season.

Despite his potential, Norby has yet to translate his power bat numbers from the minor leagues to the Major Leagues. The Marlins have seen Heriberto Hernandez become a different player upon being sent down for a short stint in Triple-A Jacksonville, and see him as an example of what can eventually happen to Pauley and Norby.

The Marlins are finishing their most successful month of the season on the road at St. Louis and Colorado. Miami went from ending May with a season-long five-game losing streak to winning six of seven series to pull above .500 (42-39) and within two games of the final National League playoff spot.

With a 16-5 record through June, the Marlins have the best record in MLB this month and have been outscoring their opponents by 32 runs (99-67). Hernández hit six home runs while Kyle Stowers knocked in five dingers in June, encouraging the Miami faithful that he has returned to All-Star status.

Max Meyer takes the ball for the Marlins against Dustin May and the Cardinals. Meyer (8-0, 2.80 ERA) remains the only qualified starter in the big leagues without a loss this season. He was previously placed on the Bereavement List but did not miss a start.

Prospect Watch

No. 9 prospect Kemp Alderman leads the Marlins organization in home runs after hitting his 12th homer of the season in Triple-A Jacksonville’s 10-4 win over Memphis on Thursday.

No. 8 prospect Cam Cannarella extended his hitting streak to 10 games during Double-A Pensacola’s 10-3 loss against Chattanooga on Thursday.
