Bryson Stott’s three-run blast ignited an early six-run ambush as Philadelphia shattered Miami’s undefeated teal jersey streak behind a dominant, 10-strikeout performance from lefty Jesus Luzardo.

MIAMI — The teal magic wasn’t there for the Miami Marlins as an early ambush led to a 7-2 loss against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.

The Marlins (16-18) entered the game having not lost a game wearing the classic teal uniforms this season and were 7-1 in home matinees.

The Phillies (14-20) started the game with a double by Trea Turner and two walks to load the bases without an out for Alec Bohm, who drove in the first run on a single. The second run came after Paddack’s third walk of the game. JT Realmuto hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to make it a 3-0 Phillies lead in the first inning.

Bryson Stott, who’s had his way with the Marlins since his big league debut, hit a three-run homer to widen the Philadelphia lead before their starting pitcher took the mound.

After a quiet second inning, the Phillies struck again in the third. Realmuto reached on a throwing error by shortstop Otto Lopez. He advanced to third on a double by Felix Reyes and scored on a single by Justin Crawford to extend their lead to 7-0.

Marlins right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack lasted 2.2 innings having given up seven runs (six earned) on five hits with three walks and a strikeout. He now has a 7.34 ERA on the season.

“I felt like I never could get in a groove,” Paddack said after the game. “I noticed I was pulling some fastballs early, never drove any fastballs at the bottom of the zone so they were able to lay off some changeups below.”

John King came in the game for his team-high 16th appearance of the season after Paddack. He inherited two runners with two outs and stranded them both after a groundout ended the third inning.

King tossed a scoreless fourth inning before passing the ball to Tyler Phillips, who followed suit with three scoreless innings, more than any Marlins pitcher during the game.

The Marlins finally got to Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo in the seventh inning with a two-run home run by Esteury Ruiz. Luzardo finished with 6.1 innings with two runs allowed on eight hits and 10 strikeouts.

Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly had Luzardo with him when they were both with the Marlins from 2021-22.

“When he first came [to Miami] from Oakland, the stuff looked like it did now,” Mattingly said during his postgame press conference. “It was just a matter of getting it in the strike zone like he does now. That’s led to confidence.”

Josh Ekness came in for his Major League debut in the eighth. The right-hander went hitless in his first inning as a big leaguer.

Kyle Schwarber broke out of a slump with a 2-for-4 game. Stott led the Phillies with three hits including his second home run of the series. The Phillies hit four doubles as a team.

Otto Lopez and Christopher Morel each collected two hits to lead the Marlins at the plate. Outside of Ruiz’s homer, the only other extra-base hit from Miami came from a Javier Sanoja double.

The Marlins will look to Janson Junk (2-2, 3.00 ERA) to salvage the series split on Monday. The Phillies will send veteran Aaron Nolan (1-3, 6.03 ERA) to secure the series win.
