The first-round pick has shaken off early injury woes, flashing elite plate discipline and a 13-game on-base streak at Single-A Jupiter.

Miami Marlins No. 26 prospect PJ Morlando extended his hitting streak to five games with a single in the fourth inning of Single-A Jupiter’s 10-5 loss against Clearwater on Friday.

Morlando also extended his on-base streak to 13 games. The 21-year-old outfielder has struggled throughout the season but has seemingly turned the corner in July.

Morlando enters August having batted .275 with a .406 on-base percentage and a .779 OPS the previous month. He also slashes .308/.438/.359 through his last 10 games.

Morlando is producing similar numbers (5 HR, 30 RBI) to his first year with the Hammerheads last season but it didn’t stop the Marlins from choosing him as a representative for the Arizona Fall League.

The Marlins selected Morlando in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft after Morlando had a highly decorated high school career. He appeared at the 2023 All-Star Game and won the High School Home Run Derby and the MVP award at the High School All-American Game.

Injuries nearly derailed Morlando’s career before it started. He missed the 2024 season after a back injury in his pro debut and was limited to 58 games last year.

If he finishes the Single-A season strong, Morlando can certainly climb the organizational ladder.
