Jared Serna makes his first major league start in the Miami Marlins series clincher against the Kansas City Royals.

The Miami Marlins look to build off Tuesday’s 6-3 win and clinch the series over the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday.

Third baseman Graham Pauley led the team with two hits in four at-bats, including a home run and a run batted in. He was recalled from Triple-A hours ahead of Tuesday’s game. Despite travel complications the night before, the delay couldn’t stop Pauley’s power.

The Marlins’ playoff hopes remain alive, but as the regular season reaches the final month, opportunities are severely limited.

Pitching Matchup

Noah Cameron will be the first pitcher on the mound in Tuesday’s game. He’s produced a 3.98 ERA and a 9-8 record in 149.1 innings (26 games). The second-year major leaguer relies on six pitches:

- Four Seamer (24.7 percent)

- Changeup (21.1 percent)

- Cutter (20.7 percent)

- Curveball (16.9 percent)

- Slider (12.3 percent)

- Sinker (4.2 percent)

Cameron has a 74th percentile pitching run value, 59th percentile fastball run value, 61st percentile breaking run value, and 89th percentile offspeed run value.

The Marlins will start Eury Perez, who’s coming off a difficult outing against the Washington Nationals last Friday. In three innings, he allowed two hits and five earned runs. Perez relies on six pitches:

- Four Seamer (38.4 percent)

- Sinker (17.4 percent)

- Slider (16.2  percent)

- Sweeper (13.5 percent)

- Changeup (8.9 percent)

- Curveball (5.7 percent)

Perez was on a dominant stretch before facing Washington. He has an opportunity to bounce back and reclaim the late-season trajectory.

Game Notes

In the lineup, Pauley will not start, despite coming off an impactful performance. He’s available to come off the bench. Left fielder Heriberto Hernandez will leadoff, Javier Sanoja (batting fifth) reclaims third base, Kyle Stowers (batting third) at first, and Jared Serna will make his first major league start at second base.

The 24-year-old was called up from Triple-A ahead of Monday’s series finale against the Nationals. Serna made his first appearance in Tuesday’s game as a pinch hitter.

In the Royals lineup, Salvador Perez will bat fourth as a designated hitter. He was hitless in two at-bats on Tuesday.
