On the Fish Unfiltered podcast, Miami Marlins Chairman, Principal Owner & Control Person Bruce Sherman discusses the team's playoff push, culture shift and more.

As the Miami Marlins open the second half of the 2026 season Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field, the first stop on a six-game road trip, Marlins Chairman, Principal Owner & Control Person Bruce Sherman recently joined the Fish Unfiltered podcast.

Sherman, 78, has been the club's owner for nearly nine years and spoke with Kevin Barral and Isaac Azout for a little more than 21 minutes on a wide range of topics.

Sherman opened with mentioning Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez, who will begin the second half leading the league in batting average (.334) and hits (127). Lopez finished 1-for-2 with a single in the ninth inning, while Meyer did not pitch in the game. He will start Miami's second game of the Brewers series Saturday.

Sherman believed Lopez and right-handed pitcher Max Meyer shouldn’t have been the only two representatives at the All-Star Game earlier this week in Philadelphia.

"I think we could've had more than two," Sherman said.

Sherman touched a little bit on coming up on his ninth anniversary of purchasing the organization from Jeffrey Loria in 2017.

"It's one of the great privileges and thrills I've had in life," Sherman said.

Since Sherman acquired the team, the Marlins have qualified for the postseason two times: 2020 during the shortened COVID-19 season and, most recently, 2023.

This season, the Marlins are heading in a direction where they could be smelling postseason baseball.

At 52-45, the Marlins are just four games back of first place in the National League East and a full game ahead of the final Wild Card slot in the National League.

Sherman had very strong words about Marlins President of Baseball Operations Peter Bendix and the growth of the club since Bendix arrived in South Florida in 2023.

"My confidence comes from Clayton (McCullough) and Peter, Gabe Kapler, and the culture that they've created," Sherman noted.

With the MLB Trade Deadline looming, Sherman was asked about Marlins right-handed ace Sandy Alcantara, who's been a part of trade conversations between last season and this season.

Although Sherman didn't specifically say Alcantara is a Marlin for the remainder of his career, he did add, "I'm looking forward to him pitching for the rest of the year."It doesn't look like the Marlins will be trading away key components on their roster, and Sherman even said Bendix "has a green light" to add team needs.

While acknowledging that building a World Series organization takes time, Sherman expressed confidence in the Marlins' long-term plan and the people responsible for executing it behind the scenes.
