It was hard to tell what the Miami Marlins would get from Cade Gibson last season.
Gibson had never played in the majors before 2025, but when he got his chance in late April, he made the most of it.
Of Miami’s qualified pitchers, only two — Anthony Bender and Ronny Henriquez — had a lower ERA than Gibson, who ended last season with mark of 2.63.
Gibson helped Miami perform much better than expected, improving from 100 losses in 2024 to a respectable 79-83 mark in 2025.
If Miami continues to improve in 2026, it just might make the playoffs.
Gibson is the latest subject of Getting to Know the Fish, a series profiling each Miami Marlins player.
Height: 6-foot-2

Years in the majors: 1
Years with the Marlins: 1
Last Year: One of Gibson’s first tests of last season took place in Tampa Bay last June.
He had been in the majors for a little more than a month, and he found himself in a 10-10 game in the bottom of the ninth.
Gibson got through the ninth in six pitches, got a lead in the top of the 10th, and Gibson shut the door from there.
"Cade has thrown the ball extremely well to this point,” manager Clayton McCullough said when asked about his decision to go with the lesser-experienced Gibson. “He's been up here and been in some tough spots, and it doesn't faze him.
"He throws strikes. You knew he was gonna go out there and pound the zone."
Gibson continued to reward his manager’s faith throughout the season.
Where He Stands: The Marlins have a deep bullpen that got deeper with the signing of Pete Fairbanks, and Gibson figures to be somewhere in the middle.
He’s the type of player that won’t command the attention of guys like Fairbanks and projected setup man Ronny Henriquez.
But the deeper the bullpen is, the better off the Marlins will be, and if the back end of the bullpen falters, guys like Gibson will become even more important for the Fish.
