Led by slugger Brandon Compton and rising star Jacob Lombard, Miami’s top prospects are fueling dominant division runs and clinching playoff berths across three levels of the minor leagues.
The Miami Marlins have two minor league affiliates leading their respective divisions in the second half of the season while another already has their postseason ticket stamped.
Double-A Pensacola (65-49) enter a home series against the Smokies leading the Southern League South with a 29-16 second half record. The Blue Wahoos swept Biloxi after a 6-3 win on Sunday. It was their first six game series sweep since 2023.
Joey Volini pitched a career-high seven innings with five strikeouts for his first win of the season. Marlins No. 2 prospect Aiva Arquette went 3-for-5 to lead the Blue Wahoos while No. 13 prospect Brandon Compton homered. Compton leads Marlins minor leaguers with 29 home runs and 82 RBIs. Arquette has eight homers and eight stolen bases since being called up to Double-A.
High-A Beloit (56-55) enters a home series against Cedar Rapids leading the Midwest South with a 29-19 second half record.
The Sky Carp collected a season-high 19 hits, including seven home runs, in their 16-6 win over Peoria on Sunday, securing a 4-2 series victory.
Miami’s No. 29 prospect Dillon Head leads the Sky Carp in hits (74) while No. 7 prospect Starlyn Caba recorded 4 RBI on three hits and a home run. Cody Schrier also hit his team-leading 10th home run during the contest.
Single-A Jupiter already secured a spot in the Florida State League playoffs with a first half division title. That has lessened the sting of a 21-26 second half.
The Hammerheads won their recent series against the St. Lucie Mets after a 7-3 victory on Sunday. Echedry Vargas hit two home runs for the third time this season and currently leads Jupiter with 21 homers.
Jacob Lombard, whom the Marlins drafted in the first round this year, rose to No. 4 in the farm system after a 10 game introduction which includes two homers, seven RBI and five stolen bases.
It remains a rough season for Triple-A Jacksonville (59-59), who are at the near bottom of the International League East with a 17-27 second half record.
The Jumbo Shrimp take on the Memphis Redbirds on the road after dropping their recent series against Syracuse with a 2-1 loss on Sunday. No. 8 prospect Kemp Alderman homered for Jacksonville’s lone run on the night.
The Jacksonville pitching staff recorded 15 strikeouts on the night, led by Jace Beck, who punched out six Mets batters in 3.1 innings on the mound.
