Somewhat of a secret weapon in the organization, the pitcher is revealing his shining skills clearly now
The Miami Marlins have developed a reputation for finding and developing young pitching talent, and Eliazar Dishmey has become the latest example of that pipeline as one of the organization’s most intriguing prospects.
Dishmey, a 21-year-old right-hander from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, turned in a breakthrough 2026 season, earning Miami’s Player Development Pitcher of the Year award after dominating across High-A Beloit and Double-A Pensacola. The Marlins prospect threw 104.2 innings while posting a 2.92 ERA and striking out 140 hitters.
Considered a potential starter at the big-league level now, the young hurler has flown under the radar a bot among the multitude of Marlins' future stars. He's projected to compete for a fourth or fifth starter spot, or as a long reliever, when he finally makes his way to the ranks of Major League Baseball. Currently ranked the 30th prospect in the franchise's farm system, he will definitely rise quickly with work over the offseason and a good showing next Spring.
Dishmey was one of only three Minor League pitchers to record at least 100 innings, a strikeout rate above 30 percent, and an opponent batting average below .200. Hitters had an incredibly low .167 average against him for the year.
He's not been in the spotlight like the more well-known Thomas White and Robby Snelling, the set of southpaws who are future starters and the top two hopefuls that Miami currently has. Dishmey is more on the periphery of Prospects, but he can still strike like a cobra with his arsenal of pitches.
"[Dishmey] doesn't have much projection left, but while he's unlikely to add much more velocity, he's shown an aptitude for changing speeds and locating well to both righties and lefties," his official MLB scouting report states. "He's picking up more whiffs in-zone this season too, even while not getting Double-A hitters to chase much.
"His command has improved but remains a work in progress with his secondary pitches. Dishmey has a relatively higher floor and could become a backend starter, especially if he can continue to develop his breaking pitches."
Looking at Dishmey in 2027
Considering he finished last season with the Double-A Blue Carp, it's likely he will be at least temporarily slotted there again to start off next season. However, his level of promotion will likely depend on what those ahead of him in the pecking order do as well. If several arms make the club out of Spring Training, Dishmey could be in Jacksonville on Opening Day - almost by default.
That's not to say he shouldn't fare well at every level of the minors on this way to the big time, but at just 21 years old, there's no need to rush the righty.
Perhaps most encouraging is the development of his swing-and-miss arsenal. After striking out 108 hitters in 99.1 innings in 2025, Dishmey increased that total to 140 strikeouts in only 5.1 additional innings in 2026.
There are still questions to answer, particularly regarding long-term command and whether his stuff will continue playing against increasingly advanced hitters. But those questions are becoming harder to dismiss the longer Dishmey continues to dominate.
He won't make a huge impact next year, but he will look to continue his quiet domination of MiLB batters. For an organization searching for its next wave of starting pitching, Dishmey is a name worth remembering... and waiting for.
