Jacob Lombard and Luis Cova flash power in Jupiter while Jonathon Long and Jacob Kisting dominate their new affiliates, fueling optimism across Miami’s revamped farm system.

It is shaping up to be a good weekend for some of the newer additions of the Miami Marlins’ farm system.

Marlins’ No. 4 prospect Jacob Lombard and No. 18 prospect Luis Cova each drove in runs on doubles during Single-A Jupiter’s 14-3 loss against the Tampa Tarpons on Friday.

Lombard was taken in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins out of high school and he has quickly adapted to the professional level nicely. He has three home runs, 13 RBI and nine stolen bases through 17 games with the Hammerheads.

Cova had spent the previous two seasons in the Dominican Summer League. He batted .288 with an .860 OPS through 19 games in the Florida Complex League before being promoted to Single-A Jupiter. The 19-year-old outfielder is still looking for his swing in the Florida State League but he has proven to be a threat on the bases paths, with 18 stolen bases in 57 games this season.
