After crushing Single-A pitching following shoulder surgery, Max Williams joins High-A Beloit’s pennant race, offering the Marlins a surging power threat and versatile trade chip.
Miami Marlins’ No. 15 prospect Max Williams is moving up the minor league ladder.
Williams was recently promoted to High-A Beloit after swinging a hot bat in Single-A Jupiter since coming off the 60-day Injured List. Williams slashed .345/.465/.534 through 16 games with the Hammerheads. Williams knocked in a hit in both of Beloit’s wins over West Michigan on Sunday.
Williams goes from a team slated for the postseason to another team that is making a run. The Sky Carp are on top of the Midwest League West standings with a 23-13 second half record.
Williams transferred from Alabama to Florida State and saw his career take off. After hitting a total of 33 homers with a .975 OPS across his sophomore and junior seasons, the Marlins took a chance on him in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
Williams signed for a below-slot $897,500 and finished the year with a .269/.359/.284 slash line across 19 games with the Hammerheads.
Williams missed much of this season after having surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder in February. He went 3-for-12 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored during his first weekend with Jupiter.
The Marlins drafted Williams because of his raw power and free-swinging approach. However, he has only two home runs in his young minor league career (37 games).
Williams is swinging just in time for the Marlins to be buying. The Marlins enter the trade deadline 1.5 games out of the postseason and in position to add to the big league club. They can sell high on a solid athlete who can play all three outfield positions with a strong arm suited for left or right field.
Minor League Rundown
Triple-A Jacksonville dominated Memphis 10-1 in a seven-inning slaughter on Sunday. Connor Norby singled on a line drive to put the Jumbo Shrimp up 1-0 in the first inning. Norby came back in the second inning to drive in another run on a double to put Jacksonville up 5-0. Deyvison De Los Santos and Johnny Olmstead homered in the contest. Andrew Pintar went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI to lead Jacksonville at the plate.
Double-A Pensacola dropped their series finale against the Smokies 5-3 on Sunday. The Blue Wahoos scored all three runs in the third inning, highlighted by home runs by Ethan O’Donnell and Brandon Compton. The former Arizona State standout has 14 home runs since being promoted to Double-A.
