The Miami Marlins may have found a prospect who can make some noise on the diamond and one who knows a thing or two about landing the big one on the water.

Selected 87th overall in the third round of the 2026 MLB Draft by Miami, 21-year-old infielder Cam Kozeal offers the organization a compelling blend of power, defensive adaptability, and sharp baseball instincts. His draft profile was bolstered by a standout collegiate tenure with the University of Arkansas, where he emerged as one of the Southeastern Conference’s top offensive threats.

In his junior year with the Razorbacks, Kozeal had a .318 batting average with 20 home runs, 71 RBI, 18 doubles, scored 59 times, and recorded a .410 on-base percentage.

His offensive growth continued the next season, as he hit 15 home runs and drove in 62 runs; his improved performance earned him third-team All-American honors and helped anchor Arkansas during their run to the College World Series semifinals.

Defensively, he's been primarily utilized in the infield; Kozeal has experience at shortstop, second base, and first base. That versatility will allow to become a valuable asset as he moves through the Marlins' farm system.

"Kozeal's instincts help him play better than his fringy speed and arm strength on the bases and in the field," his MLB scouting analysis states. "That said, he's not much of a threat to steal and lacks the arm and range to play shortstop at the next level. He fits best at second base, where he has seen action in each of his three college seasons, and projects as a dependable and adequate defender there.

Kozeal launched his professional journey in the Florida Complex League before receiving an August promotion to the Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads. He hit his first pro home run on Aug. 12 against the St. Lucie Mets, followed by a second home run two days later, concluding his initial 2026 minor-league appearance with two homers over 42 at-bats.

Those numbers provide an early glimpse of his power, although his professional development remains a work in progress. A spot on Miami’s major-league roster in 2027 would represent an aggressive timetable, and additional minor-league experience is likely to be important as he adjusts to professional pitching.

Kozeal Brings Personality to the Marlins

Raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Kozeal learned to fish around the age of four or five alongside his father, Matt, and grandfather, Mick. This lifelong passion led to the creation of his YouTube channel, Camden Kozeal Outdoors, where he posts fishing outings and offers fans a look at athletes outside of sports.

Rather than aiming to grow a massive audience, he created the channel primarily to capture memories and share a different aspect of his personality. In one early video, he target bass using topwater lures alongside his Arkansas teammate, Gage Wood.

Joining the Marlins gives Kozeal an opportunity to pursue both of his interests in a new environment. While he has already mastered the art of fishing, his next challenge will be adapting his offensive skill set to hook a spot on the big-league roster.
