The New York Mets had its four-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday after the Arizona Diamondbacks jumped all over lefty David Peterson.

The New York Mets dropped game two of its three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 on Wednesday and look to take the rubber match on Thursday night.

Mets left-hander David Peterson got the start but for the second consecutive outing, he was shelled for five earned runs and took the loss. Peterson struck out six batters but allowed six hits and two walks in five innings.

It was a quiet day for New York’s offense despite putting up eight hits in the contest. Star shortstop Francisco Lindor, who underwent surgery on his left hamate bone, went 0-for-5 and his batting average now sits at .149 with a .565 OPS. It was an encouraging day for third baseman Bo Bichette, though, who went 2-for-4, as did center fielder Luis Robert Jr. and right fielder Brett Baty.

Diamondbacks right-hander Ryne Nelson completed 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on five hits with five strikeouts to earn his first win of the season.

It was the Corbin Carroll show for Arizona, who was playing in his 500th Major League Baseball game. The two-time All-Star outfielder went 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and two RBI. Second baseman Ildemaro Vargas also had a big day, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Arizona’s series-tying win snapped New York’s four-game winning streak and knocked the Mets out of first place in the National League East. The Diamondbacks will send lefty Eduardo Rodriguez to the bump to face Mets rookie sensation righty Nolan McLean in the finale on Thursday.

Rodriguez has been incredible through his two starts despite earning no-decisions in both outings. Against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rodriguez threw five innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Against the Atlanta Braves, the veteran left-hander was even better, going seven scoreless innings and allowing four hits and a walk with three punchouts. The run support wasn’t there for him, and it might not be again.

McLean hasn’t been at his best just yet; however, he is 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA and 0.87 WHIP through 10.1 innings. Against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his first start, McLean tossed five innings of two-run ball and allowed four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. In his last start against the San Francisco Giants, the 24-year-old threw 5.1 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks with four strikeouts to secure his first win.

McLean has yet to face the likes of Carroll and second baseman Ketel Marte, so it’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top during those battles.

First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. EST on MLB Network, MLB.TV and regional sports networks.
