Nimmo breaks his silence after a surprising trade, sharing an emotional farewell with the fanbase that embraced him for over a decade.

The New York Mets and Texas Rangers pulled off a surprising trade on Sunday.

The Mets sent outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers in exchange for second baseman Marcus Semien.

Nimmo waived his no-trade clause to come to the Rangers, and he has been with the Mets his entire career after they selected him with the 13th overall pick in the 2011 draft.

Nimmo was one of a handful of trade candidates for the Mets in rumors this offseason, and a one-for-one swap was an interesting decision.

On Monday, the long-time Mets outfielder took to Instagram with a parting message to the fans.

"To the fans I’ll always hold near and dear:

There is truly no way I could adequately put into words how much my tenure with the Mets has meant to me. All I can say is thank you. Thank you Mets fans for embracing and welcoming a kid from Cheyenne, Wyoming to the Big Apple. I always aspired to become a big leaguer—I never knew I’d have the opportunity to accomplish that dream in a city so wildly passionate about the game of baseball. The last 14 years have felt like a dream, and it has been an absolute honor to share them with you. You made me feel like family, and I hope you felt the same. I will always be grateful for our time and memories together. With love, always."

Nimmo hit .262 with 25 home runs and 92 RBI in 2025 for the Mets. He is owed $101.25 million over the next five seasons, but the Rangers wanted to move on from Semien's contract that pays him $72 million for the next three seasons.

Nimmo has been with the big-league club since 2016, so fans are used to seeing him in Queens, so it will take time to get used to not seeing him on the field.
