The Dodgers and Blue Jays aggressively pursued Mets closer Edwin Diaz, but he landed with the World Series champions.

The MLB Winter Meetings kicked off on Monday in Orlando, Florida, and with that plenty of rumors and reports have swirled.

Pete Alonso, Kyle Schwarber and Kyle Tucker are arguably the biggest free agents, and the biggest trade piece is Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.

Another player that is garnering interest in New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz.

While the Mets have been making an effort in hopes of bringing him back, two teams have emerged as options for Diaz: The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post

"The Dodgers are among the teams that have shown serious interest in Diaz, The Post has learned. The Blue Jays, who lost in the World Series to the Dodgers, also are involved for the best reliever on the market," Heyman wrote.

Shortly after, a report came that Diaz is now joining the Dodgers, who are fresh off of a World Series title for the second season in a row.

"Edwin Diaz and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a deal, league source tells The Athletic," Will Sammon reported on Tuesday.

Diaz chose not to exercise his option and then turned down his $22 million qualifying offer from the Mets in hopes of another contract.

Ken Rosenthal then added that the deal is for three years.

Heyman had previously projected Diaz to sign a four-year, $80 million deal in free agency, and the Dodgers and Blue Jays have both shown their willingness to spend big, even after both teams made the World Series.

Diaz is a three-time All Star, and he had a 6-3 record with a 1.63 ERA in 2025 along with 28 saves.

The Mets had previously signed Devin Williams, who spent last season with the New York Yankees, but Diaz leaving likely means Williams will be the closer in Queens for the 2026 season.
