Kodai Senga and Mark Vientos headline a group of four Mets players identified by SNY as possible offseason trade candidates, with Marcus Semien and Francisco Alvarez also facing uncertain futures.
The New York Mets face several difficult offseason decisions, with four established players emerging as potential trade candidates following a disappointing 2026 season.
Kodai Senga, Mark Vientos, Marcus Semien and Francisco Alvarez were identified in a Wednesday analysis by SNY's Danny Abriano as players New York could consider moving before 2027.
The report does not indicate that the Mets are actively shopping any of them, but each faces questions about his future with the organization.
Kodai Senga
Senga enters the final guaranteed season of his five-year, $75 million contract.
The right-hander struggled as a starter in 2026 before improving after a move to the bullpen, raising questions about whether he could have a future as a high-leverage reliever.
However, Senga prefers starting, and a trade could allow him to return to another team's rotation while helping New York address a different need.
Mark Vientos
Vientos faces an immediate decision as he approaches his first year of salary arbitration.
The 26-year-old hit .212 with 13 home runs and a .652 OPS in 87 games, continuing his decline from a breakout 2024 season.
His offensive struggles and defensive limitations have fueled previous questions about his future with the Mets.
SNY suggested New York could explore trading him before the November 20 non-tender deadline rather than commit to another season.
Marcus Semien
Semien's remaining contract presents the biggest obstacle to a potential trade.
The veteran second baseman is owed $26 million in 2027 and $20 million in 2028, making a deal difficult without New York absorbing salary or taking back another expensive player.
The Mets acquired Semien from Texas last offseason in the trade involving Brandon Nimmo, hoping to improve their defense.
However, president of baseball operations David Stearns has not guaranteed Semien the starting second-base job next season.
Francisco Alvarez
Alvarez is perhaps the most surprising name on SNY's list.
The young catcher has shown offensive potential and improved defensively, making him a valuable player for New York.
His importance became evident when the Mets lost him to a knee injury earlier this year.
Although Alvarez could bring a substantial return in a trade, SNY suggested the Mets have little reason to move him unless another team makes a compelling offer.
For Stearns, the challenge is determining which players remain part of New York's future and which could help improve the roster through trades.
