Ron Darling has clarified his plans for 2027 after previously leaving his future with the Mets' SNY broadcast team uncertain.
Ron Darling isn't planning to leave the New York Mets broadcast booth after all.
The longtime SNY analyst has confirmed that he intends to return for the 2027 season, clearing up questions about his future that surfaced following an interview last week.
Darling addressed the uncertainty during Tuesday's episode of The Mets Pod, explaining that his earlier comments were meant to be humorous rather than suggest an impending departure.
"I was trying to be smart and funny, and apparently I wasn't either," Darling said.
The 66-year-old also expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to work alongside longtime broadcast partners Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez.
"Hey, listen, I am so lucky to be working at SNY," Darling said, according to the New York Post.
"It's provided me an outlet to try to be really good at this. And as long as Gary [Cohen], Keith [Hernandez] and SNY still wants me, I'll be here for as long as they do."
His clarification comes just days after Darling raised questions about whether he would return to SNY next season.
In an interview with Mike Puma of the New York Post, Darling acknowledged that he was evaluating his broadcasting future on a year-to-year basis despite having time remaining on his contracts with SNY and TBS.
Asked whether he planned to return in 2027, Darling initially said that was a question he couldn't answer.
Those comments prompted speculation about the future of one of baseball's longest-running and most recognizable television announcing teams.
Darling, Cohen and Hernandez have worked together since SNY launched in 2006, developing a strong following among Mets fans through their chemistry and candid analysis.
Hernandez agreed to a new three-year contract earlier this year, extending his relationship with the network through 2028.
Darling, meanwhile, continues to handle national baseball assignments in addition to his work with SNY.
He also explained that his motivation for staying in the booth extends beyond his relationship with his broadcast partners.
"I'm in it for the same reason everyone else is in it: I want to see a championship season," Darling said.
A member of the Mets' 1986 World Series championship team, Darling hopes to witness another title celebration from the broadcast booth.
For now, Mets fans can expect the familiar trio of Cohen, Hernandez and Darling to return together in 2027.
