Mets Clean Up Their Roster Situation With Four Minor Moves
Nov 2, 2026 5:26 PM

The Mets have moved on from four players, including Eric Wagaman and Cristian Pache.

The New York Mets made a series of roster moves to clarify their roster situation, as they’ve outrighed four players to get their 40-man roster down to 39 players, according to Mark Polishuk of MLBTradeRumors.com via Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

The four players are Cristian Pache, infielder Eric Wagaman, left-hander Philip Abner, and right-hander Cameron Weston, and the only surprise among them is Wagaman.

The infielder had some promise as a bench bat as he subbed in occasionally at both corner outfield positions, but he didn’t hit in the few opportunities he was given. He was supposed to supply some power, but he became one of many Mets who didn't do that. His slash line was .191/.269/.319 in 52 plate appearances for the Mets, so they’re likely happy to move on from him.

But Wagaman does have an advantage in free agency, per Polishuk, as he does have a pair of minor league options remaining. That makes him a slightly preferable choice for clubs looking for team control, although the infielder will likely have to deal with another season of shuttling back and forth between MLB and Triple-A.

Pache was already on the way out before this announcement per multiple reports, as he didn’t hit at all whehn hewas used primarily as a defensive replacement. He played in 15 games with just one start, and he lived up to his career OPS of just .514.

Abner was with the Arizona Diamondbacks for most of this season after being drafted by Arizona in the 6th round back in 2023, and he was claimed by the San Francisco Giants when the Diamondbacks designated him for assignment in August.

The left-hander is basically a Four-A player at this point in hsis career, and he currently has jus 22-2/3 innings at the big league level. His career ERA is 6.75, per Polishuk, and he has almost as many walks (14) as strikeouts (15).  But Abner has posted much better strikeout numbers and shown better control at the Triple-A level, according to the writer, so that’s where he’ll likely land now that the Mets have let him go.

Weston has a bit more promise, as he made his MLB debut this season by throwing a scoreless inning when he was called up by the Baltimore Orioles back in May. The Mets called up Weston as well, but neither team believed in him enough to lock him up, so he, too, will have the opportunity to look for a new team.
