The New York Mets are making three changes to manager Andy Green's coaching staff for 2027, including moving on from director of Major League hitting Jeff Albert after just one season in the role.

The New York Mets are making changes to manager Andy Green's coaching staff after a disappointing 2026 season.

The Mets announced Tuesday that director of Major League hitting Jeff Albert, quality assurance coach Danny Barnes and batting practice pitcher Kevin Mahoney will not return to the Major League coaching staff in 2027.

All other members of the staff will return.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reported that Albert, Barnes and Mahoney could remain elsewhere in the Mets organization but are free to speak with other teams.

Albert's departure is the most notable of the three after he spent just one season overseeing the Mets' Major League hitting program.

Before that promotion, he spent three seasons as the Mets' director of hitting development.

He previously spent four seasons as the St. Louis Cardinals' hitting coach.

The Mets restructured their hitting operation last offseason after parting ways with Eric Chavez and Jeremy Barnes, with Albert placed in charge of the program.

New York also hired former Houston Astros hitting coach Troy Snitker to work under Albert.

The offense struggled badly for extended stretches during a season that ended with a 74-88 record and no trip to the postseason.

The Mets entered June ranked 29th in the majors with a .652 OPS and 23rd with 4.05 runs per game. Although the offense improved as the season progressed, several prominent hitters endured disappointing seasons.

Bo Bichette finished with a .696 OPS in his first season with the Mets, while Marcus Semien posted a .625 OPS.

Snitker and assistant hitting coach Rafael Fernandez are among the members of the hitting staff returning in 2027.

The Mets are largely opting for continuity under Green.

Green took over as interim manager after Carlos Mendoza was fired in June and was later given the full-time job.

Barnes had worked in several roles with the organization and returned as quality assurance coach this season. Mahoney served as the team's batting practice pitcher.

The changes come as the Mets begin their offseason after finishing well outside the playoff picture.

While much of the attention will be on how president of baseball operations David Stearns reshapes the roster, the club will also need to replace Albert at the top of its Major League hitting operation.
