Mets Prospect Has Some Vicarious World Series Thrills

New York Mets prospect Tylor Megill is coming back from surgery, but his brother Trevor starred in the World Series.

The New York Mets can only dream of making it to the World Series right now, but one of their prospects, Tyler Megill, got to experience the thrill vicariously.

Megill is part of a pitching family, and his brother, Trevor, got the last six outs of the Fall Classic for the Milwaukee Brewers. Tylor, meanwhile, is in the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery after undergoing the operation back in September of 2025.

It was a whirlwind tour for the Mets prospect, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com He was able to throw live bullpens at the Mets’ rehab facility, and after that he returned home to the West Coast before taking a red-eye flight to Tampa. His original play was just to watch Game 3, but Megill got so caught up in the Brewers’ succes that he wound up staying to watch Game 4.

Game 5 was a viewing experience that didn’t happen in person, however, as Tylor needed to begin his throwing program. His fastball was sitting at 96 when he was throwing at St. Lucie, per Di Como, and the experience reminded him of what McGill was pitching for, as he cited the typical childhood scenarios of making up World Series fantasies that they shared.

He called it “exciting,” and Tylor supported his brother by acting as a sounding board. Sometimes they would talk about baseball, but other times they would play video games and talk about anything else.

Tylor Megill also uses his brother’s experience for inspiration. Trevor had an ERA of 8.37 as a rookie for the Chicago Cubs, and it wasn’t until he joined the Brewers that he was able to pitch to an ERA of 2.61 with 81 saves over the course of the last three seasons.

Trevor was also an invaluable source of support when Tylor underwent Tommy John surgery, telling his brother that it’s a common procedure with a long and successful history.

Tylor Megill will return to spring training below some of his former contemporaries on the depth chart, including starters Nolan McLean, Zac Thornton and Christian Scott. The Mets will almost certainly acquire at least one veteran free agent reliever, perhaps in the coming weeks, and other prospects are knocking at the door, per Di Como.

Megill also has minor league options the Mets are likely to use, so he could be pitching at Triple-A Syracuse this spring. There’s a lot to sort out with the lockout imminent as well, but at the moment Tylor Megill is just happy to be throwing again.
