The New York Mets won what was a back-and forth battle against the Nationals with a ten-run twelfth inning.

The New York Mets broke open a tight  back-and-forth battle with a ten-run outburst in the 12th inning against the Washington Nationals, as they won their sixth game in their last seven tries by a wild score of 16-7.

The Mets scored first in this one on an RBI double by Luis Torrens. The brief rally happened with two outs as weekend hero Tyrone Taylor singled and Torrens brought him home.

The Nationals have a potent offense when things are clicking for them, and they countered with two runs off Mets starter Christian Scott in the second inning, then another run in the third. The hits scored on an RBI double by Jose Tena, and Drew Millas drove home Tena with a single.

Brett Baty got the Mets to within a run with a solo home run in the fourth to make it 3-2, and the Mets took the lead an inning later  on a base hit by Torrens, a walk to Benge and an opposite field single by Juan Soto and Torrens moved up on a sac fly by Bo Bichette.

Scott exited after four innings, and he wound up giving up three runs on four hits and three walks. The right-hander has been on the verge of a breakout start, but his control has been an issue in nearly all of his starts.

Bo Bichette stretched the lead to 5-3 with a solo home run to left as he tomahawked a high hanging breaking ball into the bullpen.

Washington countered with a rally off Brooks Raley that began with a double by James Wood, after which Raley lost the plate and walked two hitters. CJ Abrams got a run home on a sacrifice fly, and Raley was able to get Dayton Line to pop up to third. Tobias Myers was then brought in to get the last outing, and he bailed out Raley with a strikeout.

But Myers gave it up in the eighth as Washington rallied to tie the game. James Wood started the rally with a single, and Curtis Mead brought him around with a double to right center.

The ninth was scoreless, and unfortunately the Mets kept it that way in the tenth when Mark Vientos hit into an inning-ending  double play with ghost runner Carson Benge on third and Soto on first after the Nate intentionally walked Soto.

Both teams plated single runs in the tenth and eleventh innings, with numerous chances to win both ways. The game then got completely out of hand in the 12th as the Mets batted around to score ten runs, the first five against reliever Paxton Lynch, who was pulled for a position player with the score 11-6 as third baseman Jorbit Vivas wound up on the mound giving up the final five runs. The Mets ended up pounding out 18 hits, with the Nationals adding 12.

Huascar Brazoban got the win after going two innings in extra innings, as Craig Kimbrel finished up by allowing the ghost runner to score to finally end the game after four hours of extra innings insanity.
