The New York Mets have had a very dreadful few days during the MLB Winter Meetings.
First, the Mets saw All-Star closer Edwin Diaz dash for a three-year, $69 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Then, on Wednesday, Mets slugger Pete Alonso left once and for all, inking a five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles.
Yes, those Baltimore Orioles.
Now, the Mets are searching for answers after losing two key players, and nobody knows what will come next in Queens.
Well, although it's not the move many wanted this week, they are showing interest in bringing back reliever Tyler Rogers, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post.
"Mets are showing interest in Tyler Rogers, the one deadline pickup who performed superbly. Unsurprisingly, Rogers has a very strong market."
Rogers had spent his entire career with the San Francisco Giants before being acquired by the Mets at the most recent MLB trade deadline.
The Mets paid a steep price, sending right-hander José Butto, outfield prospect Drew Gilbert and right-handed pitching prospect Blade Tidwell to San Francisco for Rogers.
Rogers made 53 appearances for the Giants in 2025, going 4-3 with a 1.80 ERA. With the Mets, he appeared in 28 games and had an 0-3 record with a 2.30 ERA.
The right-hander has drawn plenty of interest on the market, and although the Mets signed reliever Devin Williams, bringing Rogers back makes sense, especially considering what they paid to acquire him.
So far, this offseason has not gone the way the Mets had hoped for, but bringing Rogers back is a move that makes a lot of sense, but it might be expensive to do so.
