Mired in a disastrous 71-85 season, a managerless New York squad faces front-office unrest and roster upheaval as they limp toward 2027 at the bottom of the rankings.

The New York Mets' disastrous 2026 season can't come to an end soon enough.

Manager Carlos Mendoza was fired, and Andy Green has been the interim manager.

Entering the final week of the regular season, the Mets have a 71-85 record. That has them at the bottom of the National League East, and it gives them the third-worst record in the entire NL, behind only the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants.

The Mets manager search should be interesting, although Carlos Beltran admitted he has "no interest" in the job.

There could also be a new GM coming to Queens, especially with fans chanting "Fire Stearns" amid their displeasure with David Stearns ' job running the show.

Nonetheless, Will Leitch of MLB.com compiled the final set of MLB power rankings, and the Mets stayed right at No. 23, which is where they were a week ago.

"That most of the offseason moves blew up in their faces is the reason they’re not in the playoffs, but they certainly played well enough in the second half to look like a playoff team, thanks largely to rookies Carson Benge, A.J. Ewing and Nolan McLean. The Mets will look different next year, but that’s a good thing," Leitch wrote.

Believe it or not, the Mets were once at No. 5 in these rankings, although it came in the first month of the season.

The Jorge Polanco signing was a fail. The blockbuster trade for Freddy Peralta was short lived, and Peralta was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays at the most recent deadline.

And, Bo Bichette is likely to leave via free agency after this season.

Only the Cincinnati Reds, Giants and Rockies were ranked below the Mets in the National League, and frankly put, it's been a rough season in Queens from beginning to the end.

The Mets lost five in a row before taking two of the last three from the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Phillies are battling for an NL Wild Card spot.

The Mets finish the season with every game on the road, beginning with a three-game set against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday, and ending the season with a three-game series against the Washington Nationals in D.C.

To put it simply, Mets fans can't wait for 2027, and hopefully there are some new faces around Queens in a number of categories, beginning with a new manager.
