The Mets lost key stars Edwin Diaz and Pete Alonso, plummeting in power rankings. Fans eagerly await impactful moves as time ticks away.

It's safe to say that the MLB Winter Meetings did not go well for the New York Mets.

They saw closer Edwin Diaz dash for a three-year, $69 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Then, the Mets watched Pete Alonso sign a massive five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles

Even more surprising is the fact that the Mets never even made a formal offer to Alonso once they realized the price was more than what they had wanted to pay.

Right now, there's a sour taste in the mouths of Mets fans, and they are all waiting for something big to happen.

With the Winter Meetings over, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report had new Power Rankings, and the Mets dropped in at No. 13

"The Mets watched Pete Alonso and Edwin Díaz both sign elsewhere during the winter meetings, and the only major move they have made was trading Brandon Nimmo to the Rangers for Marcus Semien. They need to find a way to replace Alonso's production in the middle of the lineup, but the bigger concern might be the back of the bullpen, with several top-tier relievers already off the market and a lot of eggs now in the Devin Williams basket."

Not that it matters much, but the Orioles are now at No. 11, and it likely means that the Alonso signing and the Mets losing him changed quite a bit in that department.

The Atlanta Braces are at No. 10 and the Philadelphia Phillies - who brought back Kyle Schwarber - are at No. 4 in these rankings.

But, right now, it's a tough feeling for Mets fans. Losing Diaz was one thing, but watching Alonso walk away without even giving him a formal offer is another tough pill for the fans to swallow.

Sure, there is plenty of time left, but right now, time is ticking on the free agency buzz.
