The New York Mets' injury curse deepens as Jared Young faces a meniscus tear, joining Juan Soto on the IL, while a losing streak grinds on.

The New York Mets are bringing a seven-game losing streak into Wednesday's series finale against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

And, things continue to take bad turns for the Mets.

Superstar Juan Soto is already on the IL, and now outfielder Jared Young is also going to the IL.

Young was diagnosed with a meniscus tear in his left knee, which means he will miss an extended period of time.

The Mets also released pitcher Luis Garcia, and they called up MJ Melendez in the corresponding move to Young going on the IL.

Young had played in 11 games, hitting .250 with a pair of RBI this season in 20 at-bats.

Garcia, who spent the 2025 season with each of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Angels, appeared in six games this season for the Mets.

Garcia threw just 6.1 innings with a whopping 7.11 ERA, allowing 11 hits in the process.

On Tuesday, Young was absent from the lineup, and manager Carlos Mendoza said he was dealing with knee discomfort.

The Mets outfielder on Tuesday night was Brett Baty, Luis Robert Jr. and Carson Benge from right to left, and that figures to be a steady option with both Soto and Young dealing with injuries early on.

Offseason free agent pickup Jorge Polanco is also dealing with an injury as he battles Achilles tendinitis. Polanco has played just 14 games, but he has struggled offensively.

Melendez spent the past few seasons with the Kansas City Royals before coming to the Mets this offseason, and he figures to see some playing time in the outfield as Mendoza and the team see what he has in store.

Melendez played just 25 games in 2025, but he had 16 or more home runs in his first three seasons with the Royals, and he played in 129 games or more in each of those years.

As for the immediate turnaround, the Mets' offense has been stuck in the mud, and who knows when it will turn around.

The positive news is that New York has an off day on Thursday before beginning a three-game series on the road against the Chicago Cubs.

After that, the Mets begin a nine-game homestand to finish out the month of April. So, the losing streak is still going, and now Young is dealing with an injury as the Mets have gotten off to a disappointing start.
