The New York Mets traded 36-year-old reliever Huascar Brazoban to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for two minor league pitchers.
The New York Mets kept the trade train going with another move involving one of their top bullpen arms late Sunday night.
The Mets traded 36-year-old right-handed reliever Huascar Brazobán to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for minor league pitchers Gabe Davis and Zach Franklin, according to insider Ken Rosenthal.
Brazobán has been an extremely reliable reliever for New York in his third season with the team, posting a 5-2 record with a 2.56 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 49 strikeouts to 23 walks across 46 appearances (six starts, 52.2 innings).
Brazobán broke in with the Miami Marlins in 2022, making his debut at age 32, and pitched in Miami until 2024 when the Mets acquired him for an infield prospect.
Just hours after the Mets traded right-hander Freddy Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for three mid-to-low-tier prospects, the White Sox swoop in and acquire one of New York’s best trade chips for cheap.
Davis, 22, was Chicago’s no. 18 prospect and now becomes New York’s 18th ranked prospect. He’s a right-handed starter who made his professional debut this season but hasn’t had a ton of success past Single-A, posting an 0-5 record with a 5.81 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 70 strikeouts to 24 walks through 18 starts (62 innings).
Davis throws hard and has good off-speed offerings but has a lot of work to do to become more polished. He was college teammates with Mets right fielder Carson Benge and right-hander Nolan McLean.
Franklin, 27, has spent four seasons in the minors across multiple levels but has been with Chicago’s Triple-A affiliate all year long, posting solid numbers as a right-handed reliever. He is 2-2 with a 4.37 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 60 strikeouts to 14 walks over 33 appearances (one start, 45.1 innings).
Franklin is a huge strikeout guy, posting a K/9 around 12 or higher every season. Given that the Mets have now traded three of their four top relievers that were expected to be moved (A.J. Minter, Brooks Raley with Luke Weaver still available), Franklin has a path to the big leagues.
The White Sox get Brazobán with three more years of club control and he won’t be a free agent until he is 40. He carries a 3.49 career ERA and 1.26 WHIP over 214 games (258 innings). He’s having a career-year with an ERA+ of 162, which is way above league average.
The trade deadline expires Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. EDT.
