Soto, Alvarez, Lindor, and an unexpected rookie pitcher are already making strong cases for the All-Star game.
A week into the 2026 campaign, the New York Mets sit at .500 with three wins and three losses heading into Thursday night’s series opener against the San Francisco Giants. After an aggressive offseason that brought multiple stars into town, a 3-3 record might not be ideal, but some adjustment time should be expected.
With the first week of the year complete, it’s officially time to start looking ahead towards the All-Star game and which players are making early cases for spots on the roster. Though the Mets’ record may not be stellar just yet, there have been several standouts that have found their way onto Bleacher Report’s predicted All-Star teams.
Outfielder Juan Soto, catcher Francisco Alvarez, and Francisco Lindor were the three position players to earn a spot on BR’s All-Star teams. Lindor scraped in as a reserve while Soto and Alvarez have impressed enough to solidify themselves as starters.
It’s no surprise that Soto headlined the list for New York, as his slash line through six games reads .346/.414/.538 with nine hits and five RBIs. Soto is about as sure a thing you could get on offense, and he’s making every cent of his $765 million contract worth it.
Alvarez has been looking for his true breakout season with the Mets, and it may finally come in 2026. He’s recorded a. 913 OPS through his first six games after two of his three hits came as a home run and a double. If he can increase how often he gets on base, Alvarez can solidify himself as one of the best offensive catchers in the league.
Lindor hasn't gotten off to a great start, recording only three hits in 21 at-bats. Still, he’s already walked seven times and has two triples to his name. His average is sure to climb as the season continues, as Lindor looks for his second consecutive All-Star appearance in 2026.
One Mets pitcher made BR’s list of predicted All-Stars, but it wasn’t who you might expect. It isn’t ace Freddy Peralta, whom the Mets traded for in the offseason, but rather the right-handed rookie Nolan McLean.
McLean has one start under his belt this season as of Thursday morning, and he put the league on notice in his lone outing. Striking out eight batters in five innings, McLean showed immense composure in getting out of jams after a few moments of shaky command. It’s a scary thought that McLean is only going to get better from here, as at just 24 years old, he’s already establishing himself as one of the best in baseball.
With a star-studded roster such as the Mets’, it’s no doubt there will be multiple players representing New York in this year’s Midsummer Classic – it’s only a matter of which of the plenty of options it’ll be.
