The New York Mets have some of the most star power in all of baseball, but they also hold a deep stash of prospects that rank among the best in the game. New York’s unique blend of scouting, player development, and top MLB talent puts them in a great position for years to come.
In a recent Bleacher Report article ranking the top 10 prospects at each position, five Mets prospects earned a spot for their respective position. First baseman Ryan Clifford, third baseman Jacob Reimer, outfielder Carson Benge, and right-handed pitchers Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong all represent New York in the rankings.
Clifford was ranked as the Mets’ sixth-best prospect last season by MLB.com. 2025 was the 21-year-old’s second full season in the Mets’ system after originally being selected in the 11th round by the Houston Astros in 2022. Splitting his year in Double-A and Triple-A, Clifford finished the season with 29 home runs and an .826 OPS. He was ranked as the seventh-best first base prospect in baseball in the article.
On the other side of the infield, New York has a promising future with Reimer. A fourth-round selection by the Mets in 2022, Reimer enjoyed a great season at the plate, recording a .282/.379/.491 slash line with a .870 OPS. Ranked as the third-best prospect at third base, Reimer is on pace to contribute at the MLB level in just a couple of seasons.
The Mets’ top fielding prospect, Benge, is listed as baseball’s sixth-best outfield prospect in the article. Freshly 23 years old, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Benge sees major league action this season. The 2024 19th overall selection posted an .857 OPS in 2025, including a .978 OPS in Double-A. If he can find more success in Triple-A in early 2026, Benge will surely make his big league debut this season.
Righty Jonah Tong made his own MLB debut at the tail end of last season, showing promise at times and growing pains at others. Still, he remains one of the top right-handed pitching prospects in the MLB. He dominated in the minors in 2025, posting a 1.58 ERA in 22 starts. After his first stint in the majors, he’s surely hungry to earn himself a spot on the major league roster by the end of 2026.
The Mets’ top prospect, pitcher Nolan McLean, ranks as the second-best righty in the article. Even that ranking may be far too low after his dominance at the MLB level in 2025. In eight starts for New York, McLean was the best pitcher in the rotation, recording a ridiculous 2.06 ERA. He more than earned his spot in the major league rotation, and he’s slated for a monstrous rookie campaign in 2026.
