With offensive powerhouse Jefferson Rojas and southpaw Jonathan Santucci headlining a deep farm system, New York looks to internal reinforcements to bolster a youthful roster for 2027.
There will be a lot of work for the New York Mets to do this offseason after back-to-back seasons without making the postseason. Still, there were some bright spots from 2026 that bring optimism for 2027.
Perhaps no other decisions were as impactful as the decisions to call up rookie outfielders Carson Benge and A.J. Ewing. The rookie duo had great first seasons in the bigs and will undoubtedly be key pieces of the club’s future.
While Benge and Ewing earned their debuts last season, which Mets prospects could do the same in 2027? Let’s take a look at the likeliest to earn a call-up sometime in 2027.
The club’s No. 1 prospect, infielder Jefferson Rojas, seems destined to play on an MLB field some time soon after arriving in the Mets’ organization just last season in a trade with the Chicago Cubs. Rojas hit an impressive 27 home runs and recorded an .843 OPS across Double-A and Triple-A last season.
Though the major league infield boasts the likes of Bo Bichette, Francisco Lindor, and even Marcus Semien, I’d still expect Rojas to slide into a major league lineup at some point in 2027. Given the injuries to the infield for the Mets in 2026, I wouldn't be surprised to see Rojas given a shot to replace an injured infielder next season.
New York’s major league rotation, as of now, is already fairly youthful. Left-hander Jonathan Santucci’s inevitable promotion will only add further to that at just 23 years old. The southpaw recorded a 4.03 ERA in 27 starts across Double-A and Triple-A in 2026. He struck out 11.7 batters and walked 4.8 per nine innings with a great combination of his fastball, slider, and curve. Though his numbers took a hit when promoted to Triple-A, Santucci’s MLB debut is undoubtedly coming soon.
There are several other Mets prospects who could get call-ups next season. 1B/OF Ryan Clifford, RHP Jack Wenninger, and 3B Jacob Reimer are just a few other names who could don a Mets uniform in the next year.
Pitching and first base are the positions that the Mets will be focused on addressing the most this offseason, but if they aren’t satisfied with their moves, they have several prospects itching for their chances to fill those holes. For safe measures, however, let’s hope the front office sufficiently addresses these needs via free agency and the trade market.
