Daylen Lile fueled the Washington Nationals once again after taking down the Colorado Rockies, 7-1, on Thursday afternoon
After a humbling showing on Wednesday night, the Washington Nationals managed to split the four game series against the Colorado Rockies after a 7-1 win on Thursday afternoon salvaged the midweek meeting.
Jake Irvin allowed the lone earn run after giving up three hits and six walks while also tossing six strikeouts through 4.1 innings, while Tom Cosgrove picked up the win as one of four pitchers to help seal the win. Erik Tolman, who was called up this week, combined with Clayton Beeter and Orlando Ribalta to allow just two hits over the final three innings of Thursday's win.
Daylen Lile picked up right where he left off to anchor the offense once again after notching his third home run of the series and 18th of the season in a 3-for-4 performance. Keibert Ruiz, Jacob Young and Dylan Crews all posted multi-hit games in the win in an encouraging showing after Wednesday's lopsided defeat.
The Nationals grabbed a lead early after CJ Abrams opened the frame with a single before reaching second on an infield hit, then third on a wild pitch. Daylen Lile's first of two RBIs drove Abrams home before a sac fly from Brady House drove in Dylan Crews to push Washington ahead early, 2-0.
The Rockies answered in the third inning after Irvin loaded the bases courtesy of two walks, including one hit by pitch, before an infield single cut Washington's lead to one. But the Nationals would answer back shortly to push the lead right back.
After Young and Jorbit Vivas opened the fourth inning with consecutive walks, CJ Abrams then drew an intentional walk before Dylan Crews did just enough after his soft grounder drove in Young to make it 3-1.
Lile's home run came in the fifth inning to put Washington ahead, 4-1, before piling on in the eighth after none other than Lile reached base on a single. A double from Brady House then drove in the first run of the inning before Keibert Ruiz cleared the bases with a 370 foot blast to push Washington ahead, 7-1, in the final runs of the day.
In the midst of a ten game series, the Nationals now sit back at ten games below .500 overall as they will welcome the Miami Marlins for a four game series beginning Friday. Jackson Kent is set to throw out the first pitch, scheduled for 6:45 PM.
