Gavin Fien and Eli Willits are among the 27 top prospects set to participate for the Washington Nationals in the Spring Breakout game.

The Washington Nationals are set to take on the St. Louis Cardinals today, but this game will be a bit different than the rest.

Thursday marks the Nationals' spring breakout game, a four day event across baseball in 16 exhibition games highlighting the top prospects within each organization. The Breakout is expected to be expanded into a single elimination tournament next year with a champion in both the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues, but for now, fans will get a chance to watch the next wave of stars including an exciting group of infielders.

27 of the Nationals' top 30 prospects are part of the 40-man roster for the Nationals, though Travis Sykora and Jarlin Susana will miss the event as they battle back from injuries that were expected to sideline them for the spring with a midseason timeline still in place.

But it will give fans a chance to see several up and comers including Eli Willits and Gavin Fien, a pair of top 12 selections in the 2025 MLB Draft, who are set to take the field among the eight infielders set to participate, while Alex Clemmey is among the eight pitchers set to be available. Fien, of course, was among the five prospects to be included in Washington's haul in the MacKenzie Gore trade back in mid-January.

The Cardinals will also feature several top prospects including JJ Wetherholt, who leads St. Louis' farm system and ranks as the fifth-best overall prospect. Wetherholt is one of five top 100 prospects expected to be available starting Thursday.

First pitch is set for 6:05 PM with broadcast not available, but audio is with 106.7 The Fan picking up the event.
