Washington Nationals announce 2026 spring training roster cover image

Ahead of pitchers and catchers set to officially begin workouts on Wednesday, the Washington Nationals officially announced its 2026 spring training roster

Pitchers and catchers are officially set to report today with first workout set for tomorrow as new manager Blake Butera reaches the premium phase of the season with a chance to officially evaluate the revamped roster and farm system. And one day prior to players officially reporting in West Palm Beach, the Washington Nationals officially announced its 2026 spring training roster.

That includes a 62-man roster, including 22 non-roster invites. The Nationals added several new names among the non-roster invites including right handed pitchers Bryce Montes De Oca, Andry Lara, Jarlin Susana, Eddy Yean and left handed pitcher Zach Penrod. Catchers Riley Adams and Tres Barrera joined Caleb Lomavita on the list while the Nationals announced eight new infielders, doubling the number previously announced in late January. Both Phillip Glasser and Andrew Pickney remain the lone non-roster outfielders.

Of course, the rest of the lineup is officially in the fold with right handed pitcher Cade Cavalli, left hander Foster Griffin, right hander Josiah Gray and right hander Brad Lord among the 32 pitchers announced by the organization. Drew Millas also joins the six catchers, including three non-roster invites, alongside Harry Ford and Keibert Ruiz as the two battle for the starting catcher spot ahead of Opening Day. Sykora posted a video to his Instagram on Monday of him throwing for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery in late July 2025.

The interesting note is that Luis Garcia Jr., who Paul Toboni mentioned he'd like to see get more offseason reps at first base, remains listed at second base among the infield as the new coaching staff looks to figure out what appears to be internal candidates through spring training after losing Josh Bell in free agency. Abimelec Ortiz, one of five players the Nationals received in last month's trade, is one of four players listed at first base alongside Andres Chaparro, Matt Mervis and Yohandy Morales.

Dylan Crews, James Wood and Daylen Lile headline the outfielders with Jacob Young, who found himself in a bit of back-and-forth on trade speculation earlier this month.

Wednesday marks the first day for workouts before Monday's first full squad workout. The Nationals will open spring training on Feb. 21 against both the St. Louis Cardinals and Astros with a long list of question marks for an unproven roster to begin answering ahead of Opening day against the Chicago Cubs on March 26.
