The Washington Nationals took action against a public relations executive who went viral this week for making several claims about the organization
The Washington Nationals have drawn praise for being among the biggest surprises through the first third of the 2026 regular season, the type of attention the franchise was hoping to draw in year one of the Blake Butera era. Yet the organization also found itself ins the news for bad press which ended in the team's public relations executive being let go.
The Athletic reported on Friday night that the Nationals have let go director of community relations Sean Hudson after being featured in a viral clip earlier in the week. In a video released by the right wing outlet, O'Keefe Media Group, Hudson dove into internal discussions regarding a variety of subjects including an alleged social media ban on a Catholic pitcher, relationships with defense contractors and the organization's relationship with the Trump administration.
The Nationals also since released a statement on the ongoing matter.
“The statements are not only factually incorrect, but do not reflect the views, opinions or actions of the Washington Nationals,” the statement said. “The Nationals are dedicated to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for our players, fans and staff, and we vehemently deny any allegations to the contrary.”
Nationals president of business operations Jason Sinnarajah said Friday on the Nationals' pregame show that he has since apologized to pitcher Trevor Williams, who is currently rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, while also denying that the Nationals track people's search history and hides players from its social media.
"The comments don’t reflect us as an organization, our values and who we are. We took action right away and the individual is no longer employed by the team," said Sinnarajah.
Hudson did not respond for comment since the viral video, which has since drawn over 5.7 million views on X (formerly known as Twitter) since its release on May 26.
Republican congresswoman Lauren Boebert urged the Department of Justice to "take immediate and decisive action" while a spokesperson told Fox News on Friday night that they received her letter.
Whether any further action materializes remains unseen as the organization looks to turn the page.
Meanwhile, the Nationals dropped back to .500 overall after falling, 7-5, against the San Diego Padres on Friday night. They will look to get even in the three game series when the two teams meet on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4:10 PM as Foster Griffin looks to anchor the rotation once again.
