The Washington Nationals are expected to bring a familiar face back to the 40 man roster to make his MLB debut
After a somewhat surprising roster move at the end of spring training, the Washington Nationals are expected to make a roster move with its former first round pick headed back to the majors.
Outfielder Dylan Crews is expected to be promoted to the Nationals' 40 man roster, per multiple reports. Mark Zuckerman of Nats Journal was first to report the news on Monday evening.
It marks a notable move for Crews, who was sent to Triple A Rochester back on March 20 after struggling through spring training with concerns about his offense ahead of the start of the Blake Butera era. In 12 games and 29 at bats, Crews slashed .103/.206/.103 with 11 strikeouts, four walks drawn, just three hits and two RBIs through spring training.
Yet he has found a way to turn the corner to open the regular season in Triple A Rochester where he is hitting .258 with ten doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs in 155 at bats and 41 games.
In May, Crews is hitting .291 with nine RBIs and seven doubles to go with a pair of home runs including two doubles in a 2-for-4 day on Sunday.
The Nationals have yet to announce the move, which was in the works prior to Monday's game.
Jacob Young left the game in the bottom of the second inning on Monday night after being hit by a pitch in the left ribcage with the outfielder now a possibility to head to the injured list to make room for the move.
The former second overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, Crews made his MLB debut late in the 2024 season before sticking with the Nationals through the 2025 season where he hit .208 with a .280 OBP and notched ten home runs, eight doubles, 27 RBIs and 76 strikeouts in nearly 300 at bats across 85 games.
The Nationals are in the midst of a four-game series against the New York Mets with Crews also expected to be called up in time to suit up, making his regular season debut at Nationals Park a strong possibility ahead of official news.
