The Washington Nationals will have one of the newest prospects in the farm system face heightened competition after drawing another accolade and being promoted on Monday

One prospect within the Washington Nationals farm system got a much deserved promotion after yet another accolade on Monday afternoon.

Nationals outfielder Yeremy Cabrera has been promoted from Single-A Fredericksburg to High-A Wilmington in what has been a breakout first season featuring monster numbers.

Across 30 games, Cabrera is slashing .333/.465/.649 with ten doubles, a pair of triples, seven home runs, 22 runs batted in, 28 walks and 18 stolen bases. Yet what may be most impressive is his 1.114 OPS to lead the Carolina League and one of three to post an OPS north of one.

The official news came hours after Cabrera was named the Carolina League Player of the Week after posting a .500/.600/.900 slash line to go with eight runs, two doubles, a pair of home runs, six RBIs and four stolen bases. It marked the second time through six weeks this season that he has drawn the award after also being named the Carolina League Player of the Week back on April 20.

Though his strikeout rate has risen slightly, the increased production despite the small sample size have been part of the encouragement given Cabrera's seven home runs nearly already surpasses his eight during the 2025 season. The added optimism? In addition to ranking inside the top five this season in his hitting averages previously mentioned, Cabrera ranks fourth in the Carolina League with 18 stolen bases to offer a rare blend of power and speed.

His 28 walks also tie fellow National and former top overall pick Eli Willits for the league lead.

Cabrera was one of five players received by the Nationals in exchange for starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore in an offseason trade with the Texas Rangers, yet the promotion becomes the latest sign of encouragement in the return that restocked the farm system.

While Gavin Fien is currently on the injured list with a left wrist injury and Alejandro Rosario on IL after undergoing Tommy John surgery, the Nationals have seen the other three players get off to start starts this season with Devin Fitz-Gerald also notching a staggering 1.032 OPS in High-A while Abimelec Oritz, who was an intriguing offseason candidate to take over at first base, enters the rest of May with a .810 OPS.

Meanwhile, after Monday's off day, the Nationals are set to resume the road trip when they take on the Cincinnati Reds for a three game series. First pitch is set for 6:40 PM.
