Another accolade is in for star Washington Nationals infielder CJ Abrams after Tuesday's win
Days after setting one franchise mark alongside Cade Cavalli, Washington Nationals star infielder CJ Abrams has set another feat.
Abrams became the 12th player in franchise history to record 100 RBIs and first since 2019, along with one of two players across the MLB this season to record at least 30 doubles, 30 home runs, 30 stolen bases and 100 RBIs.
It marks the latest accolade for Abrams, who is closing the book on a career season. Abrams already comfortably set a new career high in both home runs and RBIs with the infielder nearing the feat by the All Star break. He is also hitting .261 with a .355 OBP and .835 OPS. His 2-for-4 performance in Tuesday's win also helped elevate his season average after entering the night hitting .203 through September, one month after hitting .173 with just one home run.
Of course, Abrams found himself in the midst of controversy last month after the Nationals revealed the two time All Star, and first time NL starter in 2026, would occasionally suit up at second base with Nasim Nunez sliding to shortstop in the meantime. Yet that has been a seldom sight for the Nationals with Abrams appearing in the lineup still at second base in just nine total games this season. One of those materialized on Tuesday night, though, with Nunez going hitless while stepping in at shortstop.
Abrams took his first at bat 418 feet for a solo home run to open the second inning, while he brought Dylan Crews home with a 404 foot shot in the seven inning to cap off his 2-for-4 day, accounting for all three of the Nationals' runs. It marked Abrams' first multi-hit game since Sept. 13 in the sweep against the Los Angeles Angels, an encouraging performance for the Nationals' star. Following Tuesday's performance, Abrams is now hitting .297 with three home runs and seven RBIs over his last nine games.
The Nationals, meanwhile, were able to avenge Monday's loss against the Detroit Tigers by taking a 3-1 finish on Tuesday, setting up a rubber match on Wednesday afternoon. Richard Lovelady is slated to start the bullpen game in the final road game of the 2026 regular season with first pitch set for 1:10 PM ET. Tuesday's win clinched the franchise's most road wins since 2023 with a chance for a win on Wednesday to secure the most since Washington notched 50 road wins during the World Series 2019 season.
