Andre Granillo is one of two pitchers headed back to Triple A Rochester after the Washington Nationals announced more roster moves this week

Another day, another roster move with the Washington Nationals pitching staff. This time, it marks a chance for fans to see the newest addition to the 40 man roster.

The Nationals announced on Wednesday afternoon that Zak Kent has now been recalled from Triple A Rochester, one day after the team made his move finalized.

The team previously announced that Jackson Rutledge had been optioned down to Triple A Rochester after Max Kranick joined the Nationals' active roster. On Wednesday, the Nationals announced that right handed pitcher Andre Granillo has also been optioned back down to Triple A Rochester.

Rutledge, a former first round pick from the 2019 season, heads back down to Rochester in a disappointing yet understandable move after lacking production to start the 2026 season.

In five starts and 71 appearances through his career, Rutledge owns a 6.29 ERA including a 5.77 ERA in 63 appearances in 2025. His lone appearance came back on April 13 when he struggled mightily in a blowout road loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing seven earned runs and six hits in just 1.1 innings and 44 pitches.

Granillo, 25, heads back to the minors with a 9.64 ERA and 2.25 WHIP across eight appearances and 9.1 innings pitched, allowing 13 hits and eight walks while tossing just three strikeouts in his first season with the organization.

Granillo arrived with the Nationals back in early February after the front office pulled the trigger on a deal that sent George Soriano to the St. Louis Cardinals, giving the Nationals another new face looking to settle in within the organization. Yet the right hander is coming off another struggling showing after allowing four earned runs and four hits in just two innings in the series opening loss against the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday evening. The struggles in the series opener were a key part in the latest Nationals loss after the Minnesota Twins dominated en route to an 11-3 finish, pushing Washington to 16-20 this season.

Meanwhile, the Nationals will look to rebound with a chance to end the cold streak at Nationals Park when they take on the Twins on Wednesday evening with first pitch set for 6:45 PM. Miles Mikolas is set to make the start still in search of his first win, doing so in the second game set to be broadcast on the national stage with ESPN set to pick up the game.
