The Washington Nationals will honor their minor league award winners ahead of Monday's series finale against the Miami Marlins
The Washington Nationals unveiled its first round of awards under new management for the organization's top minor league prospects headlined by several future stars.
Infielder Seaver King was named Hitter of the Year after leading the farm system with a .316 batting average and .942 OPS. King also ranks second in OBP, ranked third in both slugging percentage and hits along with top ten across the farm system in total bases, runs scored and extra base hits. His third season has materialized into a career year after setting new marks in nearly every offensive category, including hitting .304 with 14 home runs through 59 games in Triple A Rochester. King, ranked the fourth best prospect in the farm system by MLB Pipeline, also posted a 42-game hit streak spanning from early April to late May.
Right handed pitcher Miguel Sime Jr. was named the Pitcher of the Year, one month after he represented the organization in the All Star Futures Game in Philadelphia alongside Eli Willits. Sime leads the Nationals' farm system with 130 strikeouts through 23 starts, while his 16.18 strikeouts per nine innings leads the entire minor league with his 4.73 hits allowed per nine innings and .153 opposing batting average both ranked second. The former fourth round pick was promoted to High A back in June with the team's tenth-best prospect adding fuel to the future of the rotation.
Outfielder Andrew Pinckney, whose throw in the top of the ninth helped give the Marlins the go-ahead run in Sunday's meltdown loss, was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Yet in the minors, Pinckney led all outfielders with 211 putouts and ranked second with a .991 fielding percentage.
Last year's top overall pick and shortstop Eli Willits was tabbed the Baserunner of the Year after notching 11 doubles, one triple, 18 stolen bases and 63 runs in 94 games while also hitting .271 with a .345 OBP in Triple A Rochester. His 57 stolen bases through the entire 2026 regular season leads the Nationals' farm system and ranks eighth across the minors.
Triple A Rochester catcher Maxwell Romero Jr. was tabbed the Nationals Way Award, an annual award for "professionalism, leadership, loyalty, passion, selflessness, durability, determination and work ethic." In his professional first season with the Nationals, the 25 year old has notched 21 home runs and 57 RBIs across 85 total games in 2026 while ranking top ten in multiple categories.
The Nationals announced that the recognized players will honored pregame today, Monday, Aug 31 as the team closes out its four game series against the Marlins.
