The injuries are piling up for the Toronto Blue Jays, with another pitcher set to hit the injured list ahead of the season.
After a 2025 campaign that took them all the way to the World Series for the first time since 1993, the Toronto Blue Jays were looking to build off that momentum in their upcoming season. But, in addition to losing out on stars in free agency, the clubhouse also has had poor luck on the injury front. Their pitching rotation has certainly taken a hit with Bowden Francis missing the season, Shane Bieber beginning the year on IR, as well as Jose Berrios. The Blue Jays now will add a third pitcher to that, as rookie right hander Trey Yesavage will start the season on the injured list with a right shoulder impingement.
It’s not as bad as it could’ve been, but it’s certainly a hit to a pitching staff already lacking in depth, especially with Yesavage set to start his first full season in the Majors. He was called up by Toronto in September and went 1-0 with a 3.21 ERA in three starts and went 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA in five starts in the postseason, including 39 strikeouts in the playoffs. He struck out 12 in seven innings in Game 5 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, showing his ability to perform in high leverage situations as a youngster.
Here is the full story from Blue Jays Roundtable writer Brady Farkas on the disappointing news that continues to add to injury woes.
It seems like an encouraging trajectory, as he arrived to spring training with the injury and, according to manager John Schneider, is expected to throw off a mound in a week as he is improving. It just won’t be enough to see the rookie righty on Opening Day.
