San Francisco Giants ended a tough road trip on a high note, beating the Cubs 2-1 in extra innings.
The San Francisco Giants were able to take the series back from the Chicago Cubs thanks to third baseman Matt Chapman’s go-ahead RBI single in the top of the 10th, which secured a 2-1 win over the Cubs and 5-5 road trip.
Chapman scored automatic runner Jonah Cox from second base, and it was something he felt the clubhouse needed after losing in similar fashion with a blown opportunity the night prior.
Giants pitcher Keaton Winn allowed the game-tying homer by Pete Crow-Armstrong on Saturday that saw Chicago get the 3-2 walk off win in 10, but that gave crucial learning experience for him to be able to adjust his pitch selection on Sunday and, this time, preserve the tie in the ninth with a groundout by Crow-Armstrong instead.
Righty Dylan Smith got his first career save taking over in the bottom off the 10th to close things out and struck out Michael Conforto to leave Crow-Armstrong stuck on an island at third.

It was a strong offensive showing for San Francisco as Jung Hoo Lee extended his hitting streak to 15 games, which is a career high for the outfielder who has the longest active streak in the majors batting .483.
And it was a much needed one as it marked the first series win on the road since they bested the Oakland Athletics on May 15-17. They will now have a short turnaround landing in SF around 4 am Monday before hosting the Washington Nationals that same day. That will be a challenge.
