A strong Triple-A campaign by Marlins' Robby Snelling opened the door for his MLB debut Friday.
Robby Snelling was all set to make a start for Triple-A Jacksonville, but he’ll instead head up to the big leagues. The Miami Marlins are calling up their No. 2 pitching prospect after a strong stint in the minors, and Snelling is set to make his MLB debut on Friday against the Washington Nationals.
His strong campaign in Triple-A opened the door for him to be called up, as he posted a 3-1 record with a 1.86 ERA through six starts for Jacksonville. The Marlins designed Chris Paddack for assignment after a rough start, going 0-5 with a 7.63 ERA, opening up a spot in the rotation for Snelling to slot in. They could have elected for a more proven option line lefty Braxton Garrett but will instead go with the hot hand at lefty in the rookie after his performance for the Jumbo Shrimp.
Snelling was selected No. 39 overall by the San Diego Padres in the 2022 amateur draft and was acquired via a trade by the Marlins in exchange for Tanner Scott and Bryan Hoeing. But Snelling was unable to crack the 40-man roster despite a strong spring and instead was able to develop and shape a bit in the minors, a journey that he’s grateful for.

Snelling is trying to remain levelheaded but is certainly taking in the surreal moment. His goal isn’t just to debut, but to have sticking power in the majors, arriving with confidence after a stellar outing in the minors with a top ERA.
