Detroit’s injury-plagued rotation receives a massive boost as agent Scott Boras reveals a less invasive surgical procedure could slash the recovery timeline for the Tigers' dominant southpaw.
The Detroit Tigers have had a rough go of it to start the season. The team’s injury chaos at pitcher has headlined its season thus far, but things may be improving with some positive news on one of the club’s top players.
Fresh off of ending a recent five-game win streak, Tarik Skubal’s agent shared some promising news in a recent podcast appearance.
For more on the Tigers’ recent stroke of luck provided by infielder Gage Workman, Tigers Roundtable writer Chris Castellano has more.
While Workman was Sunday’s hero, it may not take long for Skubal to be back on the mound delivering heroics of his own.
Per his agent, Scott Boras, Skubal may be back pitching for the Tigers sooner rather than later.
The back-to-back Cy Young winner was expected to miss ample time after it was announced by Tigers manager A.J. Hinch that Skubal would have to undergo a surgery on his left throwing arm to clear up loose elbow particles, the initial estimation was that the procedure would leave the pitcher with two to three months of recovery time.
This was expected because the surgery and recovery typically require the patient to rebuild arm strength. But it seems that the doctor conducting the surgery has a less invasive way to go about the procedure that could greatly reduce Skubal’s time missed.
It remains to be seen just how long he will remain out, but this is a positive development as the Tigers look to right the shipping ahead.
