The Baltimore Orioles will gear up for a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Following a series loss to the Minnesota Twins, the Baltimore Orioles will continue their road trip with a four-game divisional face-off against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.
The return of starting right-hander Chris Bassitt to the rotation from the 60-day injured list should give the Orioles a decent boost in tonight's opener as the red hot Rays are coming off three series sweeps over the Colorado Rockies, Seattle Mariners and Athletics.
During limited action this season, Bassitt has gone 4-4 while compiling a 1.63 WHIP and striking out 37 batters. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay will be trotting out left-hander Steven Matz who has held a 5.46 ERA while fanning 48 batters through 62.2 innings of action.
Offensively, Pete Alonso will be hitting leadoff for the first time tonight as he leads Baltimore's lineup with a .259 batting average and 117 hits. The 31-year-old first baseman has also recorded an .833 OPS and .353 on-base percentage.
Dylan Beavers is another Oriole to keep an eye on after he launched his first home run since April 24 on Wednesday. At just 25 years old, he is showing a lot of potential, batting .239 so far after hitting .227 in 2025.
For Tampa Bay, Home Run Derby participant Junior Caminero will look to shine at the plate as well, leading the Rays with 35 home runs and matching Alonso's 77 RBI.
Chandler Simpson has also been a key threat for the Rays, batting .307 while tallying 128 hits and drawing 20 walks.
Moreover, former Orioles Jorge Mateo and Cedric Mullins will be looking to contribute. The latter would make his way over to Tampa Bay on a one-year deal while Mateo recently signed with the organization after his release from the Atlanta Braves on Aug. 9.
On Saturday, Kyle Bradish is the next in line to toe the rubber against the Rays' Ian Seymour. Bradish, who recently signed a five-year extension with the Orioles, has compiled a 3.69 ERA and 1.34 WHIP while striking out 121 batters in 127 innings of work.
Left-hander Trevor Rogers will take the mound on Sunday with a 4.21 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, facing off against Tampa Bay's Freddy Peralta who was acquired in a trade with the New York Mets before the deadline.
Brandon Young will wrap things up on Monday, holding a 3.33 ERA while fanning 93 batters in 113.2 innings pitched.
The Orioles will return to action starting tonight at 7:10 p.m. EDT.
