Kyle Bradish had a message for his Baltimore Orioles teammates.

The Baltimore Orioles have not let being in the middle of a season stop them from extending their players.

Last year the team extended rookie catcher Samuel Basallo on an eight-year deal. This year began with the club extending right-hander Shane Baz.

Now they have locked up another key piece of the rotation for the foreseeable future in right-hander Kyle Bradish, and this one feels particularly significant given everything he has been through to get here.

Bradish inked a five-year, $90 million contract extension that buys out his final two years of arbitration and three years of free agency.

Considering Bradish missed almost all of 2025 recovering from Tommy John surgery, this is a huge win for him personally and a smart move for the Orioles given the caliber of pitcher he has shown he can be when healthy.

This year, the 29-year-old has posted a 3.49 ERA across 20 starts with 110 strikeouts in 113 1/3 innings of work. He started the year a bit rusty coming off the lengthy rehab process but has fully returned to his Cy Young-caliber form.

In 2023, he finished fourth in American League Cy Young voting, and the talent that earned him that recognition has been on full display throughout the second half of this season. The Orioles hosted a press conference to celebrate the extension, and Bradish made clear that signing here was never really in doubt.

"Being a part of this group made this decision very easy," Bradish said (h/t Jake Rill of MLB.com).

It is easy to see why Bradish has built the bond that he has with this organization. He has spent his entire big-league career in Baltimore across five seasons, and the Orioles have such a young and tight-knit core that this group of teammates is essentially all he has ever known at the big-league level.

He has also been part of playoff runs with this club in 2023 and 2024 that ended prematurely, and that unfinished business is clearly a motivating factor in wanting to stay and see this through.

The Orioles dropped Friday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves, but they still have a real chance to make the playoffs in a weak American League, particularly with the front office actively considering buying at the trade deadline.

Adding Bradish to the books long term gives this franchise a foundational arm they can build around for years to come.
