Injuries sidelined him, but Kyle Bradish's dominant spring hints at a dominant return. Can he reclaim his ace status for the Orioles?

When the Baltimore Orioles traded away starting pitcher Dylan Bundy to the Los Angeles Angels on December 5, 2019, there were little to no expectations with the four prospects that Baltimore got in return.

Baltimore has always been a very good draft and develop team, as that's where a majority of the teams' best players are from. However, this trade currently netted them one of their best players to this day.

Baltimore saw one of these prospects four prospects from the Bundy trade skyrocket to the top third of their farm system, but now he has to prove himself again following two major surgeries in the past three seasons. That player being none other than starting pitcher Kyle Bradish.

Bradish (29), was a 4th round-pick in the 2018 MLB Draft out of New Mexico State University, and projected as a possible mid to low end starter. However, Baltimore identified Bradish's skillset and decide to trade one of their better starting pitchers for Bradish and a handful of other prospects.

Bradish would shoot up all the way to 10th in Baltimore's farm system during the 2022 season, and would make his MLB debut that same season. Bradish showed flashes of greatness, but would also show signs of weakness. In 117.2 innings, Bradish posted a moderate 4.90 ERA with 111 strikeouts. What was a strong MLB debut season from Bradish, however, would only get better.

Bradish's 2023 season was by far his best, as he posted a 2.83 ERA in 168.2 innings with 168 strikeouts. Bradish would post the fourth best ERA in baseball that season, and was slowly being regarded as one of the best pitchers in all of baseball. Unfortunately for Bradish, the next two seasons would be plagued with injuries, and he would be unable to replicate his success.

In July 2024, Bradish got Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, which kept him sidelined for over a year. However, Bradish's recovery went smoothly as he was able to take the mound once again in August of 2025.

In a limited 32.0 inning sample size, Bradish would post a dominant 2.53 ERA across six starts with 47 strikeouts. Although he barely pitched, a strong end of the 2025 season is exactly what Baltimore and Bradish needed.

Fast forward six months, and Baltimore has invested in Bradish to be a top of the rotation arm while also staying healthy.

In 10.0 spring training innings this year, Bradish has posted a strong 3.60 ERA with nine strikeouts and only two walks. Bradish is coming off of his best start of spring training, where he threw five shutout innings, only surrendering two baserunners with two strikeouts.

After a two year hiatus, Bradish is finally looking like the Cy Young pitcher that Baltimore has been waiting on.
